Student Success Skill: Let's BrainstormStudents will learn brainstorming as a strategy for finding multiple solutions to a problem. Writing: We have been hard at work on our animal essays. We have learned about using text evidence and citing evidence. We will finish up our writing next week. Reading: We have been looking closely at non-fiction texts and their structures as we continue to research our animals. Next week we learn about looking at the bigger picture when researching. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: We are wrapping up our fractions standards and are moving to measurement next week. We will measure to the nearest 1/4 inch and learn about line plots. Advanced: We have mastered multiplication using a variety of strategies. Next week will cover division and our measurement standards. Our unit assessment will be on Tuesday, March 8th. Acc Math: This week was all about points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles. Next week we will review shapes and symmetry. This is a very quick unit so our next unit assessment will be on Tuesday, March 8th. Social Studies: We have finished our Colonial America unit. Next week we return to science and learn about HEAT.

This unit we are breaking down each part of the informational essay into daily lessons which will allow us to apply it to our animal research. This week is all about main idea and details and how to cite evidence. Reading: We have jumped right in learning all about our animals in our research clubs. Each day we are spending time researching and writing about our animal. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: We are still continuing our work on fractions. This week it is all about equivalent fractions. Advanced: We will continue to introduce different multiplication strategies this week. It is very important for students to have their facts memorized at this point as they need them to solve these higher level problems. We will have a check in on Friday. Writing: We finished our second literary essay this week. Next week we will finish up our literary unit with our on demand writing on Thursday. On-demand writing is when students are given a topic and must plan, write, edit, and revise using all of the skills we have learned during the current unit. This writing is considered a major grade. Reading: This week we continued our character studies unit with a new read aloud: Make Way for Dyamonde Daniel. We had a check in today comparing characters, setting, and the theme of the story. Next week we will take our unit 4 assessment on Friday. The study guide went home on Thursday. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: This week we continued working with fractions. We will have a check in next Wednesday. The unit assessment retake will be next Friday. Advanced: This week we learned about multiples and factors of numbers. Next week we will focus on prime and composite numbers and multiplication strategies. Acc Math: We are moving right along with our fractions and decimals unit. This week we worked with place value and notation of decimals. Next week we will compare and order decimal and start reviewing for our unit test which will be the following week. Grammar: Conjunctions were the topic of the week. We learned that conjunctions join 2 sentences, clauses, or ideas together. We are headed back to phonics next week and will working on diphthongs: oo, ew, ui, ue. Social Studies: This week we learned about the different homes colonist had according to where they lived and even made our own colonial village. We also talked about the differences between schools today and colonial schools. Next week we take a closer look at the different types of jobs colonist had. |
