(describing with traits) -"Summarize what has happened in your book so far" Student Success Skill: Improving My Focus Students will learn different strategies to improve focus in their daily lives. Writing: We are saying goodbye to our opinion writing unit. Our on demand writing this week was should dogs be allowed in school? The students had to form their opinion on the topic and go through the writing process. Next week we begin our informational unit. Reading: We reviewed this week for Unit 2 assessment which was completed on Thursday. Next week we will begin unit 3 which is a Non-Fiction unit. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: This week was all about review and our Unit 2 test on Friday. Next week we will begin Unit 3: Patterns in Addition and Multiplication. Advanced: Elapsed Time was our focus this week. The students really caught on fast and learned a variety of strategies to help solve elapsed time word problems. Next week we are moving onto Volume and Mass. Acc Math: This week in math we focused on finding fraction equivalence with reasoning instead of models. Next week we will compare and order fractions and end the week with a quiz on Thursday November 4th. Our unit 3 test is set for Monday November 8th. Grammar/Phonics: This week it was all about 3 letter blends. We discussed how 3 letters make 1 sound. We took a check in on Thursday. Next week we are discussing irregular plural nouns and will have a check in on Friday. Science: This week we began our unit on Pollution. We learned there are different types of pollution and all about air pollution. Next week we will learn about water and land pollution and complete activities for classwork grades.

Writing: We finished up our opinion writing on Friday in TEAMS. Feedback will be coming home soon. Next week are wrapping up our unit with our on demand writing. This is where the student is given a topic and must go through the writing process without any conferencing or instruction. This is a cold write. Reading: We finished up with our 2nd mystery read aloud and boy were we shocked to see who was stealing the diamonds! We worked on comparing and contrasting of characters, setting, and plot in preparation for our unit assessment next week. The study guide went home yesterday in Thursday folders. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: This week we worked on inverse operation and fact families. We have our Unit 2 assessment next Friday. We will be reviewing all standards next week to prepare. Advanced: This week was all about using an analog clock to tell time to the minute. This is an easy thing to practice at home! Next week we are working on elapsed time using a variety of strategies and will take a quiz on Friday. Acc Math: We will start our week next week taking our Unit 2 test on Monday October 25th (this date was pushed back from last week's blog update). Then we will dive into Unit 3: Fraction Equivalents. Next week will work on identifying and creating equivalent fractions, transition from models that were used in 3rd grade to being able to use other strategies and reasoning. Our 4th grade fraction standards are split into 3 units, this first one covering just two standards so it will be only about 2 weeks long. We will have a quiz on fraction equivalents on Friday October 29th. Grammar/Phonics: This week we worked on how to make nouns plural. There are quite a few rules (-s, -es, -ies, -ves). Give your child a word and see if they can apply what we talked about this week. Next week we are heading back to phonics. Writing: This week we focused a lot on the structure of our opinion essays with conclusions and making sure we are writing in paragraphs for each reason with examples. Next week our final draft will be due by Friday. We will also look at different types of persuasive writing such as petitions, editorials, and persuasive letters. Reading: We were introduced to our 2nd mystery read aloud. The Whodunit Detective Agency: The Diamond Mystery. We talked about what the red herring of mysteries are (they are a false clue to make it harder to solve the mystery). We completed a graphic organizer on character traits and feelings. Next week we work on our predicting skills with our mystery books and partners. Math: Be sure to check out each math page for more details about current units. On-Level: We continued working with division using a variety of hands on activities and learned about the communitive property. Next week we are working on inverse operation and fact families. We have a quiz on Friday. Advanced: This week we finished up unit 5 with our assessment. Next week we will be our last 3rd grade unit: Measurement. We will be telling time, solving problems using volume and mass, and graphing. Acc Math: We finished out our week with a multi digit division quiz including interpreting remainders. Next week we are going to work on multi step multiplication problems including multiplication and division. We will also begin to review for our Unit 2 Test on Thursday October 21 Grammar/Phonics: This week we worked on the OU sounds. Did you know it makes 3 different sounds? Next week we are back to grammar working on regular and irregular plural nouns. Social Studies: We have been working hard on our informational books about Native American tribes this week. A lot of great predictions were made even though we did not figure out the mystery before the crime solvers in the book. Next week we will begin our 2nd mystery read aloud of this unit. On-Level: This week we continued working on a variety of strategies with division and took a quiz on Friday. Next week we will begin look to at the communitive property. Advanced: This week was all about graphing. We worked with picture graphs, scaled bar graphs, and line plots. We measured to the nearest 1/4 and 1/2 to collect our data for our line plot graphs. Practice problems will come home on Wednesday to help prepare for our unit 5 assessment on Friday, October 15th. Acc Math: Next week we will continue practicing multi digit division with remainders. We will spend some time interpreting remainders with real life scenarios and story problems. We will have a division quiz on Friday Oct. 15th Grammar/Phonics: We moved back to grammar and worked with pronouns all week. We had a pronoun check in on Friday. Next week we will work on the OU sounds in phonics. Social Studies: This week we focused on comparing Native Americans from the past to present and the contributions they make to society today. We also began to work on our Native American end of unit project which will be completed in class. We will finish up our projects next week. |
